How does Slop Squash detect AI-generated images?
It starts with provenance. The current build reads Content Credentials, EXIF and IPTC fields for generator names and declared source types; it does not independently validate C2PA signatures. Every image check, on any plan, can also ask OpenAI’s public verifier about OpenAI-issued image signals, and the answer is cached by content hash so the same picture is not sent twice. If a platform stripped the metadata, a Pro model recheck can offer a second opinion, but the pixel classifier described in the product spec is not active in this build. See the detectors page.
Can Slop Squash detect Gemini, Imagen, Nano Banana or ChatGPT images?
Sometimes, when usable provenance survives the upload. OpenAI-issued ChatGPT images since May 2026 carry SynthID and Content Credentials, and OpenAI provides a public provenance check; the current build calls it on every image check, whatever the plan. Google’s own SynthID verifier is not open to third parties. Slop Squash can read Google Content Credentials declarations when present, but it does not independently validate their signatures today. If a site stripped that metadata, only a Pro model recheck is available as a second opinion.
Can Slop Squash check Google SynthID?
Not directly for Google-issued signals. Google does not provide third parties with an image SynthID verifier, and its text watermark requires the generator’s secret key. OpenAI does provide a public provenance endpoint for OpenAI-issued images. The current build calls that endpoint on every image check, whatever the plan. For Google-generated images, it can read Content Credentials declarations when they survive the upload; if they are gone, it cannot name the generator.
What websites does Slop Squash work on?
It has dedicated support for X, Reddit, YouTube comments, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky and Hacker News, plus a generic checker for other sites. Relevant posts, comments and images are checked as they approach the viewport. When a result clears your sensitivity setting, the squash appears on the post. Open it to see the likelihood estimate, the evidence and every skipped check.
Can AI-written text be detected reliably?
No, not reliably enough to treat a result as proof. Third parties cannot read keyed text watermarks, so Slop Squash scores visible writing patterns: sentence rhythm, stock model vocabulary, polished lists, editorial punctuation, headings inside comments and unusually clean conversational text. The card lists each pattern that contributed. Your sensitivity setting decides whether the circle appears. Treat any text flag as a best guess.
Does Slop Squash send posts or browsing data to a server?
Yes, when network detection is on. Slop Squash sends the text it checks and the URLs of checked images to its API; it may also include the page hostname for site statistics, never the full URL. Signed-in requests carry the extension token tied to your account so plan limits can be applied. The API fetches image files and may send the file alone to a provenance verifier. It does not send your browsing history or form data. On-device only keeps checked content in the browser and runs fewer checks. The privacy policy has the exact list.
Can Slop Squash hide AI posts automatically?
Yes, with Pro. Auto-block collapses a post that scores as AI before you see it, leaving a short notice and a Show control. You can switch checking or Auto-block on by site and add account-level hiding rules. Optional model rechecks add a second opinion.
How much does Slop Squash Pro cost, and what does Lifetime mean?
Pro Monthly costs $9 a month. Pro Lifetime costs $96 once and includes future Pro features for as long as Slop Squash continues to offer the product. Monthly renews until you cancel; Pro stays active through the period already paid for. Free needs no account and has no expiration date. Compare the plans on the pricing page.
Does Slop Squash offer refunds?
Yes, if it is your first Pro purchase and you ask within 14 days. Email support@slopsquash.com within 14 days of payment for a full refund of that first Pro Monthly or Pro Lifetime purchase. Later payments are refunded at our discretion. Your rights under local consumer law still apply. Pro ends when the refund is issued.
How accurate is Slop Squash?
Useful, not definitive. A 2025 Royal Society Open Science study found that typical adults picked the AI-generated face in a pair 30% of the time and super-recognisers 41%, both below chance. Slop Squash reads signals people cannot see, but none turns a flag into proof. The card shows what produced the score and what could not run. Use it as a second opinion, then make the call yourself.
What should I do if Slop Squash flags something incorrectly?
Open the card and choose “Not AI.” The report is stored with your account ID and the content hash so report abuse can be handled; it is deleted if you delete your account. Once enough reports exist, the community result can move the score. You can also raise your sensitivity setting, stop checking that site, or email support@slopsquash.com with a link to the post.
How does the Slop Squash creator referral program work?
Approved creators get a tracked link. An eligible new customer gets 30% off the first month of Pro Monthly, and the creator earns 30% of that first payment after the discount. Stripe payouts run weekly once approved, unpaid commission reaches $20. Apply on the creators page.
